1. Build from Within
Most often self-confidence is associated with external characteristics. We tend to assume that most beautiful people with the nicest bodies and the most money are also the most confident. But in reality, the key to self-confidence does not lie in how you look or your material possessions but is a direct reflection of how you feel. Invest time to learn about yourself and embrace what you may consider to be flaws. At the end of the day, the only approval you need is your own and the only thing that matters is how you see yourself.
2. Lovers & Friends
At this point in our lives, the relationships that we’ve established with our family, friends, and significant others mean the world to us. We look to our lovers and friends for guidance and validation but oftentimes fail to realize that the magic lies within. While likes, retweets, and compliments may make us feel good, socially-mediated self-confidence does not exist. What others see in you is a reflection of them, not you. You are the only one with the power to build and destroy your confidence.
3. It is What It Is
If you could do it all over again, I don’t doubt that you’d make some changes. Each of us go through life making decisions that may very well change the entire course of our lives. Whether those changes are for better or worse, we can’t alter the past nor allow poor decisions to define who we are as a person. Hindsight is 20/20 and time machines don’t exist just yet, so for now, it is what it is. You are the creator of your own destiny and at some point, each decision that you’ve ever made was exactly what you wanted.
Whether it’s #bodygoals or #relationshipgoals, social media consistently emphasizes comparison. As we scroll down our timelines, we subconsciously compare our hair, skin, body, and other aspects of our lifestyles to complete strangers. A simple click on a hashtag will have you CONVINCED that you’re doing something “wrong”. But no, you’re not. You are good enough just as you are and besides, no one can make you feel inadequate without your permission. So #DoYouBoo!
5. Self-love is the best love!
All aspects of self-confidence are rooted in love. Learning how to love yourself, unconditionally, is the most important lesson you will learn. Contrary to popular belief, none of us are perfect but we are all unique. Embrace your individuality. Recognize your worth. Cultivate your growth. Water your imperfections.
And most importantly,
Believe in yourself.
